Hello Music Lovers!

I have been off for a while because ‘adulting’ is catching up real fast. Today we feature a songbird with the prettiest eyes. Monitah. I wrote to her a few months ago about wanting to share her story on my blog and just yesterday she hit me with her profile. I will not alter or add to her words, I thought it wise to share it just as it was delivered.

“Monitah is a singer, Songwriter and poet hailing from Nairobi.
I’ve always been a music Stan ever since I was a little kid, listening to it, watching videos on telly and basically singing along all the time. This never left and over time the bond just grew stronger.
I used to sing with my pals in Primary school, during break times, just for fun. I was extremely shy though.

In high school I started singing with my friends from class in an Acapella and it was here that I started to slowly get over my shyness.
After High school I decided to take the whole music idea more seriously and used to sing with my bestie, practicing and learning how to come up with original pieces and even looking for a place to record.

Fast forward to 2012 and I recorded my first track with a good friend of mine and talented rapper, Davie Karr called ‘Train’. It was my first time recording and it felt so good. I was like, mmmh, imagine if I could actually start recording my own tracks? 😀

So 2015 came and I was like this year is going to be my big breakout year and I got the chance to get signed to Flag 42, shout out to the entire team. J *So so grateful*

Recorded my first track ‘Kuja Tu’ with Benady, Jerry and Phonez sometime in April and released it on SoundCloud. This was followed up by ‘Barua’ in August with my very first video to boot. I was really happy with the response and I’ve done a couple of shows so far. I’ve performed at Michael Joseph Centre, Pawa 254 and most recently at Juniper’s kitchen where I headlined my first solo gig. It was epic! 😀

I am also a spoken word and as such I like to infuse that into my music. I was a slammer at the August edition of the Slam Africa poetry event at Pawa 254, with another event coming up on the 5th of December at Paa ya Paa *come through :D*

I’m working on my next track that’s set to be released before the end of this year. Look out for it! 😉
Also, next year in August I’m working on releasing my debut album. Yaay!! 😀
Aiming for the stars. Look out world!
